| Lifeline Language Services was founded in 1990 to provide emergency language translation services UK-wide to the haulage industry - hence the name! We now provide language services to (almost) every industry as well as private clients, SMEs, NGOs, Government bodies and charities. A customer awareness survey for the ATC showed Lifeline Language Services to be one of the most recognised translation service UK providers - and with virtually zero complaints ever in our 19 year history, great references, and nomination as our Chamber's "Business of the Year", that seems reasonable! | ||
| Based in Preston, Lancashire NW UK our operating costs are lower than many competitors, allowing us to deliver more cost-effective language services including Translation, Interpreting, Voiceover + Subtitling, Transcription, and multilingual Typesetting , in over 150 languages. (Hint; never trust a translation service provider who offer "all languages" - that's just silly!). | ||
| Unlike many translation service UK providers we are a Translation Company, not an Agency. If you're a translation service UK buyer, it's important to know the difference. Translation Companies translate and proof-read in-house and add value by assuring quality; we have 5 professional linguists in-house, including a Spanish Government-authorised Sworn Spanish Translator and Interpreter, an MITI and an MCIL, while all external translators we employ are professionally qualified and experienced. Work is 100% reviewed and completeness and formatting checked. The better Companies - like ourselves - belong to professional bodies governed by strict Codes of Conduct to maintain high standards. Ours are the Association of Translation Companies (ATC) and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI, of which we are Corporate Members). | ||
| We are also an Ethical Company. We know buying language is tricky - it's easy to be taken advantage of since unless you speak the language fluently yourself, quality control of purchased interpreting and translation services is difficult and costly. You have to place great trust in the provider. With us, that trust is justified - as our references show. We never take advantage of a buyer's language inexperience; we're on their side throughout the process, whether they're repeat-buying for a multinational, or just once for their daughter's marriage certificate. We charge ETHICALLY too - our pricing lets us pay our translators and staff properly, but doesn't keep us in luxury offices. We're not typical... We're also a green company. We try to minimise our footprint on the planet, which is why we've just replaced all our printers and monitors with low-energy ones, and we recycle EVERYTHING. We moved our translation service out of badly insulated offices into thermally efficient modern ones - the move wasn't purely for green reasons, but this DID factor in selecting premises. And we're a socially responsible company. We take seriously our society involvement, accepting students for work placement and working with local schools to encourage future linguists, such as presenting at Career Fairs (check out our BT Tradespace BLOG for October) as well as helping our ethnic community members qualify as translators and interpreters to raise their community's living standards. |
||
| Unlike some translation service UK providers, we never force low rates onto suppliers. We also pay reliably. As a result we attract and retain the best translators and interpreters - which our clients seem to prefer. Translation service is like everything else - you get what you pay for. A low price usually means a translator or interpreter was bullied into working cheaply, or that your project is done by inexperienced, sometimes unqualified, translators. To make things worse, these providers set ridiculous output targets so even basic quality checks are skipped. We really are DIFFERENT - as well as paying proper rates we're actually battling the industry to obtain decent pay for public service interpreters. You can see our ("Star"!) letter on the subject in the May 2009 edition of the ITI Bulletin, the journal of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. |

| Who are Lifeline? Well, our Managing Director, Lynn Everson, started our translation service in a dining room in 1990 with a fax and a typewriter; we now have city centre offices employing 10 great people. Lynn is Full Member of both the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL), and sits on the Council of the ATC. She's also an Internationally CPC-qualified Transport Manager with six years hands-on international Logistics experience. Our Production Director is Eur Ing / CEng and a full Member of the IET with 17 years experience in engineering business management in blue-chip manufacturing. He also has extensive health, safety and quality expertise and wide-ranging IT knowledge.
